Mash Direct, the market leading manufacturer of vegetable side dishes and convenience meals, recently hosted a visit by the Northern Ireland region of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists to the processing plant in Comber, Co Down.

The members were briefed about the success of the farm-based business by Martin and Tracy Hamilton, the husband and wife team who founded the business as a farm diversification project more than a decade ago.

They heard how the company had developed from an initial mashed potato product to a range of more than 40, many of which have won UK Great Taste Awards. The company has, in addition, won the prestigious UK Food Manufacturing Excellence Award and an award for innovation at the SIAL food show in the Middle East.

Following a factory tour, group members were able to sample some of the companies range of gluten-free products including the recently launched Beer Battered Chips and Nourish Bowls for healthy lunch snacks.
